About Us

Vikatadamshtri Kadampa Buddhist Center

Built in 1912, the Center, a place of quiet contemplation, is located in Charles Village, Baltimore, and is within walking distance of Johns Hopkins University. Although located in an urban setting, it is directly opposite peaceful Wyman Park and The Baltimore Museum of Art sculpture garden, providing the opportunity for quiet walks and outdoor meditation.

In November of 1995 the first weekly General Program class was offered as a branch class of Vajrayogini Center in Washington, DC. The branch gradually grew in size until the current location was purchased in 1999 and became an independent center in the NKT-IKBU. In 2001 Vikatadamshtri Center became fully incorporated as a 501 © 3 non-profit organization in the State of Maryland.

The center community includes people of varying ages, singles, couples, and families as well as 3 monks and 3 nuns. As a community we strive to offer peace to others and create a pure, peaceful and harmonious environment.
