What to Expect at a Class

People from all walks of life attend our classes – young and old, religious and atheist. Some simply want to learn how to meditate, and these classes are perfect for this purpose. Others want to find out more about Buddhism, and so the talk (and meditation) are of benefit to them.

Generally, classes begin with everyone arriving a bit early, and sitting on chairs in a comfortable room. The meditation Teacher then comes in and welcomes everyone to the class.

They will probably introduce the subject of the evening, and then take everyone through a simple and calming relaxation meditation. This usually involves focusing on the breath to settle your mind and develop a sense of inner peace. The meditation usually lasts 10 – 15 minutes.

Then the meditation Teacher will give a short talk on a Buddhist topic followed by a question-and-answer session.  Here are the upcoming class topics. To close the class the Teacher will lead another guided meditation, which sometimes is a second breathing meditation and sometimes focuses on the meaning of the talk.

Classes last anywhere from 45 minutes to ninety minutes. Check the locations page for specific class lengths.
